Data science continues to evolve as we move from an analogue to a digital sensing paradigm for Planet Earth. The scale of inference ranges from the genetic to the individual, to the landscapes, the continents and to the entire Earth! Data science is now integrating statistical science with computer science, decision and user science, deterministic modelling as well as data visualisation. Case studies integrating “data relevant sciences” will be used to showcase a data based view of our world. Common to all the case studies will be a conceptual frame that shows how data sciences transform information and decision workflows, i.e. the information value chain.
